Alongside direct clay printing, earlier studio research considered how computational models could inform moulds for slip-casting. The interest was in moving between a generated form, a workable mould and a cast ceramic object.
Lighting offered a context for examining wall thickness, surface texture and hollow geometry. The process depends on the physical requirements of casting, release, drying and firing as much as on the digital model.
The research sits alongside Scripted Ceramic Forms, where generated toolpaths are used for direct clay extrusion. Each approach offers different possibilities for moving from code to a ceramic object.
